To start writing the word Hello, with word prediction I start typing h. This generates a list of the 4 most likely words I use that start with h: have, his, her and him. Typing he generates her, here, help, head and hel generates help, hell, hello and helpful. Each time I choose a word its ranking increases, making it more likely to be predicted next time, so over time my list of predicted h words would be different to yours. You can choose to have words or phrases predicted and switch between them as you type.

When the text is read back, it is also punctuated, therefore, if the student has not put punctuation into the text, they will hear its absence when the device reads their text to them.
